Gift of Music

Friends of the Arts in St. Louis Park

A Legacy of Generosity and Musical Joy

The St. Louis Park Gift of Music is a program created by saxophonist Jim Rhodes, an emeritus member of the St. Louis Park Community Band. Inspired by his deep belief that every child deserves the chance to experience the joy of making music, Jim partnered with Friends of the Arts to bring this vision to life.

This program provides musical instruments and lessons to children who might not otherwise have access due to financial barriers. Backed by research showing that music education enhances learning abilities, fosters creativity, and offers a fulfilling outlet for self-expression, The Gift of Music is helping shape brighter futures — one note at a time.

How It Works:

  • You donate your unused musical instruments that are collecting dust in storage. (We’ll even pick them up from you!)
  • We send them to professional technicians for cleaning and repair.
  • We gift the good-as-new instrument to a band or orchestra student whose family may struggle to afford one.
