Greetings!

As we say goodbye to the summer of 2017, we are grateful we were able to share a portion of it, making music with each other and sharing it with audience members.  We are super excited for our 2017-18 season to begin!

We are excited and pleased to announce we will host another inter-generational concert this year at Orchestra Hall!  We will couple with the Friedell Middle School 7th Grade Band from Rochester, MN (Alma Mater of Kent M!), Champlin Park High School, and our SLP Band.  In addition, our conductor, Steve Lyons is composing a piece the SLP Band will premiere entitled “Mela-no-more.”  Parts will be available for this sometime in early January as the concert will be in April.

Thank you to everyone who has sent theme or repertoire ideas. Our first concert repertoire is set and we are excited to share it.  “There’s No Place Like Home” will feature mainly American music, all centered around the idea of home.

If you wish to get started listening, here is the list of tunes:

A Shortcut Home – Dana Wilson

The Homefront: Musical Memories of WW II – arr. J. Christensen

Ask Not – A Musical Tribute to JFK – James Swearingen

Country Band March – Charles Ives trans. Sinclair
